Must Do's in Key West

I find myself really drawn to places that go against the norm, and if you want to feel like you are in a different country, without leaving the good ol US of A, look no further than Key West!

Key West is a mixture of fishermen, tourists and people who want to escape reality.  I find almost everyone I meet absolutely loves it or hates it...I fall in the love category.

Renting a bike I recommend renting a bike and ditching the car, because bike riding is part of the Key West experience! There's many places that will rent you a bike throughout the town, and some hotels offer it as well.  Since Key West is relatively small, as long as you are staying on the island, you will have no trouble navigating around.

Duval Crawl The number of bars that line Duval street is crazy!  I once tried to make it all the way down, having a drink at each bar, and only made it halfway.  I recommend starting on the west side and working the way down.  Check out my favorite bar blog coming soon.

Renting a boat for the day If you are not a seasoned boat driver, get yourself a captain or skip this one!  It is really easy to get stuck on sandbars, which are hidden everywhere.  However, if you are comfortable, a trip around the the island is fun! You can dock by where the ferries come in and stop at some restaurants and bars. There is an island called Boca Grande you can dock on the beach and spend some hours drinking and hanging on the beach.  There is a little island, called Sunset Key that has an amazing restaurant, Latitudes, across the bay which is worth checking out as well.

An afternoon with Zack When you plan your trip around seeing a comedian/musician you know he is good.  Zach posts every day on Instagram @Zackseemiller, which bar he will be playing at in Key West, and I always make sure to spend an afternoon watching his shows and laughing till I cry.  He is hilarious, and as Key West as they come.  Definitely check out his Instagram and spend an afternoon laughing!

Hemmingway's House

Hemingway lived in Key West for more than ten years and wrote seventy percent of his life-time works during his time in Key West. His house is now a museum complete with 40-50 six-toed cats on the property. It's entertaining to take the tour and learn about this American Legend.

Michael McCloud

Michael McCloud is another Key West staple and musician. He is a grumpy old man, but he plays almost everyday and has for the last 30 years at Schooner's Wharf, which is a bar/restaurant definitely worth stopping at. I love to watch him smoke the whole time he is on stage, put he lit cigarette in his guitar and tell Key West stories. Ask him for the Toby Keith story....
