Dealing with Motion Sickness
Motion Sickness
I have gotten sick on more boats than I can count, but through it all, I have learned some of the best ways to avoid it, for people like me who love to be out on the water
From the Dr. Office
Transderm Scope-If you know you are going sailing or going on a cruise, this is my number one go-to. It is a small patch placed behind your ear that works with your inner ear to make you feel balanced. Side effects are fuzzy eyes, no joke, it is hard to read the next day, and dry mouth. If you are taking them just one day, take them off as soon as you are off the boat. Advantages, I have never been sick with one of these on.
Zofran-
These pills work like wonders when you feel like you are going to be sick. You just put one under your mouth and let it dissolve.
From the Grocery Store
Bonine is my favorite motion sick pill you can get over the counter because it doesn't make you drowsy. They don't sell it at all stores, but I can usually find it at Walmart. Dramamine always puts me to sleep, even the non-drowsy kind, so I would recommend Bonine.
Motion Sick Bands- I have tried these and not sure if they work. Not worth it, in my opinion.
Natural Remedies
Ginger candy- I was on a boat once, and the captain gave me a ginger candy and said it would make you puke or make you stop feeling horrible, but either way you will feel better than you do now. It is the truth!
Quease Ease- I stumbled across this while picking my friend up from the hospital, who was fighting nauseousness from her surgery. They gave it to her to inhale, and it helped, so I thought I would try it for motion sickness. You can buy it on Amazon, and it is almost like an inhaler of four oils, and you breathe them in. I have found this helpful too.
Best of luck to my boat loving barfers!
XOXO,
Julia
