Tortuga Music Festival

Tortuga is a huge festival on the beach in Fort Lauderdale.  It is three long days of drinking, sun, country music, beautiful people in next to nothing and toes in the sand! Two big stages on either side of the beach, a new from Nashville covered stage in the middle, and a smaller Corona stage tucked near the center, make it a country music lovers paradise!

Not going to lie, this is a hard area.  The sheer amount of people that are always in constant movement was overwhelming to me.  If you lose your friends at night, good luck trying to find them again, and if you want to get anywhere close to the stage, make sure you get there when the gates open, stake out a spot and plan on being there all day.  Granted, this is from the perspective of an over 30-year-old. If you are in the 21-30 range, want to meet people, and are all about the party and less about the music, this is your section, and there is no judgment!

VIP

VIP is beautiful and more boujee, drinks are free with your wristband, and you have food options in there as well.  There are hammocks and games, water misters and room to spread out.  It also has its own set of clean air conditioned bathrooms, which is a huge bonus! It has stage access, a pool to cool off in, and cabanas to chill and take a break from the sun as well.

Super VIP

I haven't tried this yet, but it looks to me like this area gets you the closest and best stage access with the least amount of people. It comes with free food and drinks, and an air conditioned area to cool off.

Tips:

  • If you have a headliner you want to see, get there early and stake out your spot and don't leave

  • If you are in General Admission, buy the refillable cup, and it will save you money every time you fill it

  • Don't worry about packing, the majority of people are in their bikinis and towels from sun up til they stumble out of the gates

  • Be prepared that the only beer they sell is Corona or Corona Extra, and the drinks are pricey!

  • No spray sunscreen is allowed, so stock up on the lotion kind before you go. It is hot!

  • You can bring chairs if you are looking for a more chill experience on the beach, but they are only allowed in designated areas. You can also bring towels to lay on or use to designate your spot

  • Make sure your hotel is within walking distance!  The boulevard closes due to the number of people leaving after the concert so getting to an uber would be hard. The B Ocean, the W, the Hilton and many more are within walking distance

  • There are lots of fun bars, and great food around the festival so don't feel like you need to stay or eat in there if you need a break from the heat or noise

Overall, it was a blast!  I loved the lineup, and getting to see so many great bands with my toes in the sand.  Love that they are raising money for Ocean Awareness and can't wait to go back next year!
